there seems to be no chance for a reunion but
..."The following announcement was made by 4AD on 15th June...
EMMA POLLOCK - Signs To 4AD
We're delighted to announce that Emma Pollock has signed a recording deal with 4AD.
Emma co-founded The Delgados and their Chemikal Underground record label in the mid-1990s, and as well as being a distinguished, distinctive songwriter, she also possesses one of the most beguiling voices around.
Emma will spend the remainder of 2005 writing, demoing and recording. Her debut solo album will be released next year.
Obviously we're all really pleased for Emma and hope that the new recordings go well; no doubt they'll be first class.
In other news, Alun is continuing to write and demo new material out at Chem19 and you will hear more about that as time goes on I'm sure.
Paul and Stewart are continuing to play live with Malcolm Middleton as he begins to promote his outrageously acclaimed album Into The Woods. Future dates are listed below...
Sun 3rd - Amsterdam, The Paradiso. (+CocoRosie and Tunng).
Sun 10th - Kinross, T In The Park.
Thu 11th -London, The Borderline.
Fri 12th - Leicester, Summer Sundae Weekender Festival.
Sat 13th - Glasgow, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut.
Sun 14th - Newcastle, Cluny.
Wed 17th - Edinburgh, Cabaret Voltaire
Tue 6th - Belfast, Auntie Annie's.
Wed 7th - Galway, Roisin Dubh.

Please check out Malcolm's website www.malcolmmiddleton.co.uk for the opportunity to win a rare Japanese version of Into The Woods and to access free MP3's of album tracks.
Here is some of the press Into The Woods has received...
"Into The Woods" by Malcolm Middleton
MOJO (5/5) "achieves ABBA-like moments of pop greatness"
Observer Music Monthly (4/5) "Bruised Magic"
UNCUT (4/5)"Blearily beautiful"
Drowned In Sound (4/5)
"Middleton’s engrossing and imaginative lyrics are worthy of a published poet"
BBC Collective (4/5)
"A record that strikes you joyously in the head, heart and feet"
"Into The Woods is a real revelation, and a profoundly lovable record in its entirety."
Sunday Herald (4/5)
The Scotsman (4/5)
Daily Telegraph "delirious, skipping pop"
Sunday Telegraph "right up there with Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash"
TimeOut "It’s a beautiful and inspiring return"
The List (4/5) "Do yourself a favour and get Into The Woods today"
If this doesn't help to convince you then probably nothing will!
In other delgado / non-music related stuff, Stewart is continuing to try and finish his mythical Prague iTour. This will eventually constitute a walking tour around Prague that you can download as an MP3 with the dry reflections of the ex-bassist ringing in your ears. One suspects that the Prague tourist board have no idea what they've let themselves in for. Watch this space...
The Chemikal Underground website has recently posted a free download of an early demo version of I Fought The Angels as we trawl through the office, unearthing rare delgados material. In addition, there are plans afoot to compile a Peel Sessions album which will hopefully see the light of day by the turn of the year.
More details and all manner of music related stuff can be found on the chemikal website, so please, logon and douse the chemikal message board with your informed opinions...
I'm really really looking forward for Emma's debut and more of Alun's material. It never will be the same as the delgados but I think we can be dead happy 'bout the guys not giving up music ^__^!

"The Delgados, influential figures in Glasgow's independent music
scene for over 10 years, have announced that they are to
amicably disband. The reason has been put down to the departure
of their bass player Stewart Henderson who informed the band in
the New Year that he did not wish to make another album. The
Delgados have always been known as uniquely collaborative
songwriters and as such, it was decided that the band could not
continue without all of its original members.
The Delgados leave behind them 5 critically acclaimed albums
including The Great Eastern, Hate and last year's Universal
Audio. Their two principal songwriters Emma Pollock and Alun
Woodward will be pursuing individual projects and drummer Paul
Savage will continue production duties at the band's Chem19
Studios in Hamilton.
The four friends will continue to run their record label
Chemikal Underground in this, its 10th Anniversary year, with
releases scheduled for Malcolm Middleton, Mother & The Addicts
and Arab Strap. They are extremely grateful to everyone who has
supported The Delgados over the course of their career."
No... I feel like crying now. :(
I wanted to at least see them in concert.
Emma is one of my major musical influences. She's given me much inspiration for the music I write that no one ever hears. I am so distraught.
RIP, beloved Delgados. You were (and still will be) one of my favorite bands. Ever.

Anyone else going to see The Delgados on their Scottish Tour
next month? For the first time in their 10 year existence and thanks largely to the Scottish Arts Council's wonderful TuneUp Touring Programme, the delgados will be embarking on a 7 date tour of Scotland taking in Glenrothes, Orkney and Shetland as well as Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
All details can be found in the tour dates section of the website where you can find phone numbers for the venues and details of how to buy tickets. The shows will no doubt be a hell of a laugh and we are looking forward to them enormously. Don't miss out, tickets ought to be bought in advance!
See the TuneUp website for more details on the tour and other upcoming touring artists...

Blind Pig 10/24/04
Last night was a great show in Ann Arbor. The show seemed rawer than the last I saw, but it was a great change of pace. If you have the means, I strongly suggest grabbing a ticket.
For those interested, here's the setlist:
Encores were "Pull the Wires from the Wall" and "No Danger" Current Mood: hungover

hey, my name's Faina and joining this community is sort of a requirement for me as The Delgados are close to favorite band *ever*. I don't know what it is, but they're just the perfect band for me all things considered. I especailly love how they've perfected their sort of tradmark lovely, calm manner of singing even when describing horrible things. My favorite CD so far has the to "The Great Eastern" although "domestique" is gaining on- although I was sort of suprised when I heard that one, For a very short while I thought I maybe got the wrong band or something.
I have a q. though. I've been a fan of their for about...a year, I think, and I don't think I've ever actually seen a picture of them. Can anyone help me out here?
|Thursday, September 9th, 2004|
Because this community could use a post...
I just got my copy of Universal Audio. It's definitely a departure from previous albums, but I'm quite impressed. The first single had me a little worried that it wouldn't be as powerful as The Great Eastern or Hate, but having now listened to the whole album, I can see my fears were unfounded. For those who are interested and not on the mailing list, the Delgados are starting a U.S. street team (which is how I got an advance copy) so you should check out the new website (still at http://delgados.co.uk
Anyway, this album has me really pumped and I feel the need to spread the good word. Current Mood: ecstatic

from the official website:
It's finished and it's Universal Audio.
Yes indeed, the waiting is over, the album is complete and we've even got a title for it.
Eleven songs running to just over 40 minutes, the album is free of orchestral splendour but rich in tunes, guitar solos and hit singles. Well, that last bit might be a shot in the dark but fuck me it would be good wouldn't it?
Anyway, here's the track listing...
I Fought The Angels
Is This All That I Came For?
Everybody Come Down
Sink Or Swim
Bits Of Bone
The City Consumes Us
Girls Of Valour
Keep On Breathing
Now And Forever
Yes, this site is extraordinarily out of date and please believe us when we say that a new, rather slick delgados site will be here soon. I believe you guys to be inordinately patient people so just hold on a little longer and it will be as if this withered website never happened!
Oh, it sounds fucking brilliant by the way - get excited... :: posted 24.6.04 Current Mood: excited

Hey folks. I’ve loved the Delgados since my sophomore roommate introduced them to me a couple years ago. I just had the pleasure...no, the ecstacy of seeing them live last Friday when they actually came to my school (Earlham College). I’ve been to well more than my fair share of concerts, but this was by far one of, if not the best I’ve ever seen. I had no idea our little Comstock Room could contain so much sound. Anyway, just thought I’d post my experiences and let anyone who might be reading this who didn’t already know that the Delgados are currently touring the US and you really must see them. Though I only had to walk approx. 10 minutes to see them, it’s worth driving many hours if that’s what it takes.

Hi all. Been a member for some time, but this is my first post.
I saw the Delgados last week at Lee's Palace in Toronto. They were fan-fucking-tastic! I knew it was going to be a great show when the bassist (his name escapes me) brought a huge bottle of wine on stage with him. They played all my favourites and a few new one's, so needless to say, I was extremely happy. Current Mood: bored
